Writing in Public Relations

It is one thing when you are assigned a personal essay, critical analysis or a blog post here and there. That is what most college students are used to by now and are able to sit down and write with some ease and flow. It is another thing to learn how to write in a Public Relations class. It is unlike any style of writing that you are trained in during a typical English class. This semester I was thrown for a loop when I was assigned such things like: press releases, employee newsletters, feature stories and backgrounders. Like most of the students in the class, I was not familiar with such a genre and was a little hesitant to begin learning. Soon afterward,  I caught on to the crisp, clear, down-to-the-point and sometimes dramatic combination of writing and found my self thoroughly enjoying each assignment.
